Annual Reports & Community Impact
BASIC publishes a report card for each summer Learning Academy and an impact report for each session of the Latino Family Literacy Project. Those reports, and the figures behind them, are below.
Annual Reports
Learning Academy Report Cards
BASIC publishes a report card at the end of each summer Learning Academy, covering enrolment, attendance, instruction and outcomes.
- Learning Academy Report Card 2025 — BASIC’s 9th summer
- Learning Academy Report Card 2024
- Learning Academy Report Card 2017
- Learning Academy Report Card 2016
The Learning Academy has run every summer since 2016 — 2025 was its ninth, with no session in 2020. Report card PDFs are posted here for 2016, 2017, 2024 and 2025; every other summer, 2017 through 2025, has its own write-up on the Events page. Contact BASIC if you need figures for a year that is missing.
Latino Family Literacy Project
The Latino Family Literacy Project runs in fall and spring sessions. A program report follows each one.
- LFLP Program Report — Spring 2025
- LFLP Program Report — Fall 2024
- LFLP Program Report — Spring 2024
- LFLP Program Report — Fall 2023
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
BASIC has run Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Borrego Springs since December 2015, mailing free books to local children from birth to age five. As of April 1, 2024:
| As of April 1, 2024 | |
|---|---|
| Subscriptions | 386 |
| Books delivered | 4,632 |
| Funded by BASIC | $6,435 (67%) |
| Funded by the State of California | $590 (6%) |
| Funded by direct donations to Dollywood for BASIC | $2,626 (27%) |
| Total program funding | $9,651 |
Nationally, about one child in eight receives Imagination Library books. In Borrego Springs the ratio is one in two.
The figures above are transcribed from BASIC’s summary chart: DPIL financial impact chart (image).

BASIC By the Numbers
For FY2025, BASIC paid out $115,682 in grants and scholarships against total expenses of $403,765, and reported 17 people employed during the year alongside 43 volunteers. The full detail is in the FY2025 Form 990, and the year-by-year financial picture is on the Financial Information page.

Scholarships & Student Opportunity
BASIC’s scholarship program, its full award history, and its graduates are documented on the Scholarships section of this site rather than here, to avoid publishing the same figures in two places. See Scholarships.
Summer Learning & Academic Programs
BASIC’s summer Learning Academy, its in-classroom aides, the Latino Family Literacy Project, the Transitional Kindergarten Academy and the FAFSA/CADAA program all serve Borrego Springs students. The report cards and program reports above give the participation figures for each. What each program does is described in the programs section of this site.
Community Impact Snapshot
Two summaries that appeared on BASIC’s previous website — a fiscal history of the Learning Academy, and a 26-year history of BASIC’s scholarship giving — were not carried over when the site moved, and BASIC does not currently hold copies. They are noted here rather than quietly dropped. Contact BASIC if you need either, and in the meantime the year-by-year financial reports cover the same ground back to FY2018.
